We can run out of space before we run out of names!

But, just to name a (very) few:

Stephen, the first Christian martyr

Simon de Montfort, English rebel; championed the rights of the barons against unrestrained royal power

Hypatia, a woman killed by a mob who felt she had no business teaching mathematics at the university in Alexandria (happened in about the 4th or 5th century AD)

Nathan Hale, a spy during the Revolutionary War

Joan of Arc, who rallied the French during the 100 Years War

Helene Vagliano, member of the French Resistance of World War II

First of all, people are dying every day as soldiers at war. That's a cause. I'm assuming you mean historical people. Here's what I came up with:

Malcolm X - Fighting for Equality
Jesus - For Our Sins
Abraham Lincoln - For Supporting Voting Rights for Blacks

Ignaz Phillip Semmelwiess (19th century Hungarian) died fighting for sanitary conditions in hospitals so that patients would not die of infections spread by doctors.
He did not fight with a gun, but by trying to persuade doctors to wash their hands after dissecting corpses, before examining patients.
In European hospitals at that time, the mortality rate among maternity patients was 100%. Women would rather give birth in the street than be admitted to a hospital.
He died of septicemia after accidentally cutting his finger while dissecting a cadaver
I'm not sure of the correct spelling of his name.
ALSO
Augusto Sandino who died trying to free his country from foreign interference.
All the Nicaraguans who died horribly trying to free their country from the ruthless (US backed) dictator, Somoza.
Patrice Lumumba, elected Congolese leader assassinated in a plot by international interests (including the CIA) in order to gain control over the mineral wealth of his country.

'Theo' may I just say this, Gandhi did not die for freedom he was murdered by an individual, nevertheless he was a great person who by his efforts almost certainly made the British leave India. Garibaldi fought to unite Italy as one state. Simon Bolivar, known as the Liberator freed his country (Venezuela) from the Spanish as well as another five South American countries. Hope this helps 'Theo'

I would rather die fighting for a noble cause, unless i had the love of my life, and well i would much rather if i could die fighting in the middle ages with swords and such as it takes more skill and technique, or maybe as an assasin for the cause? because it would be more epic. but yes i would much rather die for a noble cause.
