Because the show's Director would have fired him and he would have been out of work.Also there was no need to fix that boat when they had a limousine ride home....LOL.

Because then they would have got off the island and the show would have ended sooner.

well he was a brain not a grunt.. and he did try.. they tried all kinds of things..none of witch ever worked... they were STUCK on the island.. THAT was the entire premis silly goose...
