No, because he didn't bleed to death, his heart was punctured and a valve was severely damaged by the barb. Had he left it in, the poison would have worked it's way into his heart (which it did anyway) and he would have collapsed. So, his death was threefold--the barb punctured and damaged his heart, the barb injected poison into his heart, and he had massive blood loss. Had he left the barb in, he may have spared some blood, but more poison would have worked it's way in, and more damage would be done to his heart (if his heart even remained beating with the barb there).

Either way, he was doomed. The barb pierced his heart and even if it would have stayed there he would have succumbed to the poison or died of cardiac arrest. This went DIRECTLY into the heart and it would be like someone stabbing you in the heart with a knife. Whether or not it comes out, it's going to spell the end. As for the poster (Double S) who claims three scientists said that if he had left the barb in he would have lived, there were no such reports on CNN. People make stuff up here all the time!

A sting ray's barb is poisionous. And he was stabbed in the heart, so the poision had already gotten into his heart, and bloodstream. He still would have died had he not pulled the barb out of his chest.

As the ray was probably bigger than steve irwin it would have ripped it out unless he could have cut its tail off, though as the barb is serrated it would have made a rough cut so blood would have pumped from the wound anyway didn't stand a chance, never mind the poison.

my mom asked that too are family thinks if he did not pull it out he probibly lived a little longer so hes wife could say good bye and kids but he could have just lived to! no one knows nice qustion!!!
