Depending upon the reasons for divorce, the court orders to pay maintenance allowance to the lady. It is decided by the court looking in to the financial aspect of the lady and the ex husband and the quantum of money is also decided accordingly. It also depends on number of kids too.
Most important is to present deaf ears to such fellows who talk nonsense about a country like India.

In India It's umcommon for a wife to get divorced without getting killed. Usually when the family of the wife can no longer pay the family of the gloom he looks elsewhere, and often she is killed for honor rather than divorced.
A woman getitng any kind of fair treatment in India is uncommon.
The government has been cracking down on it but thousands of indian women die from karosene oil fires every year due to the husbands family.

Only if you are in government service.
and btw, otherworldtrader is so naive. this shows how it is not wise to believe all u see on news channels. The situation is not that bad at all. Its just that divirces are uncommon in india. in india, you marry once, for life.
It is debatable ofcourse , whether it is good or not so much.
