I am a 23 yr old guy comming to California (Santa clara) to make my living as a Computer Programmer.

How much money should I earn for a confortable living.? I really have no idea about US and its my first trip outside India( a lil scared too!).

At present I would be getting around 5000$ per month. So that amounts to 60,000$ p.a

Would this do? and will I be able to save a few?

Serious Replies Please! Your opinion would help me a lot to overcome my confusion.
Thx to all those who reply.

I think there a couple of variables in the answer to your question. First off northern or southern cal? $60000 in northern cal would provide for a comfortable living while southern you will not get as much for your money. The next consideration is your debt ratio. If you don't have any bills then you can live quite comfortably in Cali. You just have to expext to be paying 1700 to 2200 on a mortgage or rent...
