Emo - short for Emotive Rock, a culture based around a music scene that origionated in the US. Listen to some My Chemical Romance and Fall Out Boy to get an idea. There is also a way of dressing that goes along with it, black skin - tight jeans worn just below the butt and a hairstyle that is long at the front but short at the back, both EMO boys and girls follow the same sort of dress code. EMO's are generally hated by Indie - music enthusiasts and Metal music enthusiasts.

EMO stands for emotional, these are bands like Hawthorne Heights, Fall Out Boy, Taking Back Sunday. However, if you calla a person an emo it is being sterotypical, cos emo is just a a steroetype

No such thing as "emo" music. EMO is a fashion statement for kids. It is short for emotional, but its mainly about the way they dress and act. They think that if they are "emo" then the bands they listen to are "emo", but that's rubbish. If you ask the bands themselves they will say they are a rock band or a punk or metal band (trust me I'm a musician, no self respecting band want to be in a teenage pigeon hole). So in short....It's kids misunderstanding things like punk, and the attitude that went with it. They think they can invent a new attitude and then tie the music they like to it, but it happens the other way round. Punk for example was started with the bands themselves.

An EMO is a type of music youngsters listen to. Also people are referred to as an EMO by the way they dress as well as the music they like, They normally wear black similar to a goth but with out goths reputation.

Thought it meant emotional metal or emotive metal!? Bands like Panic! At the Disco, Fall Out Boy, Fightstar, Bullet For my Valentine, My Chemical Romance are all supposed to come under this heading. Went to a EMO festival thing...everyone wore black and looked sad...I think that was the in thing to do. I felt like everybody's Mum!!! HA!

its hard 2 explain but a band called my chemical romace are EMO. EMO is a type of music in the genre of rock music

emo is short for emotional emo's are people who listen to emo music eg overly dramatic music or any rock bands that sing about emotion eg my chemical romance. dress nearly all in black and red
almost like goths or the new romantics of the 80's if you will
they are sad and attention seeking cause they act like a but of sad pathtic people being apathtic for themselves

I have a friend who is supposedly "emo" and she reminds me of me 5 years ago lol...of course, back then we were just goths!
It stands for emotional, and cannot be used in the context "the", you cannot say "you are AN emo" or such like, it is simply "you are emo"
