Well, it's simply because they think you're the cause of their daughter's grief and obviously they will stick up for her as she is their daughter. Personally, I think the inlaws should stay out of it as they can cause more harm than good.

they are uncomfortable, feel that they have to take a side and they chose hers. People too often do that so what if she is a little uncomfortable they called you their son for how many years. My mother in law had nothing but contempt for me when I left her son but I had been her daughter for 17 years. It takes two to make a marriage and two to break a marriage and it's really too bad more people don't realize that. Our daughter was dating a young man very seriously that we all liked and I will definitely not shun him when I see him. In some cases I am sure that there is some justification to treating a childs ex with a lack of respect but definitely not all. A lot of people also forget that if you had children with your wife through blood you are always related to that family. I'm not saying that they should have you over for Christmas dinner I'm just saying that if it was many little things that led to the breakup that they at least say hello when they see you.

Even if they do still care about you (part of the reason they cared about you to begin with though was that you made their daughter happy), they simply have to take her side.
They may be heartbroken that they can't have a relationship with you any more, but their daughter comes first so they have to hide that. They may not want to hurt their daughter (or their relationship with her) by even APPEARING to take your side.
It probably wasn't an act, but your relationship with them simply can't be the way that it was. (Then again, they may have just been trying really hard to like you, since you were such a big part of her life.)

because their daughter is closer to them anyway, and they blame you for not being make her happy, even if it vice versa or things just didn;t work out between you. It is natural reaction of parents who love their child. This way they try to show their daughter made a right decision. So, don't worry so much,. If they really liked you, deep in their heart they like you still.

They don't want to see their daughter upset - they loved her since birth.
They don't want to see their daughter broke if you leave her and you are the main bread winner.
They paid for the wedding - they don't want to lose on their investment.
They may even care about you alot - but they don't want to cause an issue between them and their daughter by befriending you - in a divorce situation. If you are causing their daughter to be heartbroken, broke, and divorced - they blame you for all these troubles.

No, but you have to remember you are no longer a part of the family. You didn't mention whether or not you initiated the divorce. If it was you, can you blame them?
