The power of reading begins with the ability to read.

You should incorporate the struggles of those that learn to read at later ages in life, to show how the ability to read is taken for granted. Those that are illiterate and learn to read know the true power of it, can appreciate it more.

Try starting with an outline. State a premise, then use at least two paragraphs to support your premise. Then one final paragraph to wrap it up.

Sometimes it helps to just brainstorm ideas first -- just write down anything that you can think of when you think about reading and what it can do for you.

maybe try and say something having to do with: what would this world be like if no one knew how to read? speak about professions that require reading/ writing. Tie in reading with writing. both go hand in hand. something like that. good luck
