Hot swap is swapping out devices while the computers still on. These are external devices as for internal, the computer case would have to be open. For example, you can swap out USB flash drives, hard drives, cameras while the computer is still on. However, it is best to use the remove external hardware device icon while doing this as it safely shuts down the external device before you remove it.
