You can pamper any pet, as some do. When i had a beta fish a couple years ago, my mom bought it the nicest tanks and food and when it was sick she bought it very expensive medicine. A dog is a great animal but u probably wouuld not want 2 pay for their shots which are pricey and 100% neccessary. A cat as well needs shots. A bird could be a nice animal, except most birds do not like being alone so u would have to buy it a companion and a big cage. A fish could work if it was a simple gish and not one that took a lot of time to take care of. Hamsters are great i would go with a hamster or a guiney pig, they can be loveable, they cost about $10 and u can u can get a really cool cage to put them in. They never need to be given a bath because they clean themselves, and they are just sooooo cute.the only $ u will be spending on them afer u buy the cage and all its necessities is 4 food, which is not expensive.

Your going to "lose" some money on any pet. That's not a very friendly way of putting it. Consider it investing money in a companion. Caged animals have a decent set up cost and basically cost only their food. A cat has to be fixed but that's only once and shots aren't much. After that pets start to cost more and more.

Definitely NOT a goldfish. I have had 8 goldfish in the past, and they always die off one by one, even though I always feed them the correct amount and follow care directions precisely. If you do not want to have a larger pet, which takes more work, then I would recommend something like a hamster or guinea pig. You won't be able to interact with them much though. If you want a pet that virtually takes care of itself, get a cat.

Lose money? Any pet that you love is not a waste of money. Spending money to feed your pet and keep it healthy is not a waste, it's a responsibility. I don't mind spending money on my pets. Maybe you should just stick to those little electronic giga pets.

a hermit crab all they need is a certain kind of food, a wet sponge (keep it slopping wet), sand, a cage (plastic with air holes), and a shell for when it grows. You can get them at petstores. No shots or anything needed,no scrub cleaning or water dumping either. Just every once and a while fill the sponge up with water and add some more food (if its the type thats needs it). Ask you petshop owner for more info.

a pet rock... all animals require upkeep. Generally, the upkeep and setup costs way more than the animal itself. Even to keep a 20cent fish will cost at least $10 to set up a tank.

if that's an issue I'd say NONE.. its a long term commitment and if you don't want to spend money on it.. say if it gets sick or needs something.. you have no biz owning a pet.. there are other things that require regular maint on pets.. its all money and if that's an issue.. buy a pet rock
