Denny being in the chase got me thinking about this. Does anyone know if a rookie has ever won? I know he's the first rookie in it sice the chase started, but I was wondering if it's ever been done at all. If so, what year and who was it?

Go back as far as we can in history of nascar. I guess technocly the first champion would have been a rookie, but other than that?

I don't think so. But I like your name-Casey Mears is my favorite driver, next to Ryan Newman. I think Casey is really gonna rock and roll next year when he joins the Hendrick team! If you haven't met him yet, he's is one of the nicest guys!

It used to be that rookies never even won races, much less champion chips. Davey Allison was the first rookie to win a race and now it's more commonplace. This year it was predicted that the rookie of the year winner would have to make the "chase" and that happened. I don't have anything official on this, but I think the highest a rookie has ever placed in the points is maybe 8th or 9th.
With the new chase format though, all the records are being re-written.

there substitute into 250 miles and 500 laps by using fact it substitute right into a short track. some races have lap numbers and others have distance in miles or perhaps Kilometers. in any case, now and back they say it relatively is the Shapie 500 at Bristol supplied via the Nascar Nextel Cup sequence. I dont think of thats a huge deal. Thats why you look those issues up in strengthen so which you be attentive to, yet a minimum of thats what I do.

Not that I know of...and I don't think that Denny will be able to pull it off either this year, he is running excellent and showing alot of talent but I think that the stress of the chase is going to slow him down. I might be totally wrong in saying that...and if he does pull it off that would be really cool for him and his team! But I think any of them that are in the chase right now can not be counted out...it is going to be very interesting and I have a feeling that it is going to come down to the last race again in Homestead.
The only person that I can think of that has won a championship and was a rookie was in the busch series and that was in 2003 and Brian Vickers won the championship.

Technically if a rookie wins the championship they cant win rookie of the year and I don't think that has ever happened and I also don't think it ever will. Its a big accomplishment to be in the top ten in points your rookie year competing with veterans and drivers who have alot more experience then you and have alot more respect then he does.
