It might not work. The hard drive and Windows XP look at various components in the computer. Things like the mother board, CPU, drivers, etc. Each time you start the computer, part of the internal check is to compare those components to what is already stored in memory. If too many things have changed, the hard drive may not boot in the "new" computer. Or if it does boot, the operating system may be unstable because of the Windows Genuine Advantage. (You can only use XP on one computer unless you have a multi-license agreement with Microsoft or you get their authorization to install it on a different computer.) And if the computers are from two different manufacturers, or two different models from the same company, that could also add to the problem. You can try it but don't be surprised if a straight swap doesn't work right.

This should work but XP will resense all the components and may want the CD to install drivers for hardware it found new.

The only areas where this wont work is when the hard drive controller is so different that I cannot read the geometry of your disk. If youre IDE based, that should work fine as the controller is on the HD. Other types may vary.

It doesnt hurt really to try really because you can always put it back in the original PC or add it as a second HD to the new PC and access your data.

Since the other pc will have different hardware, XP will have to be re-installed.

Just put your xp cd in and reboot, than follow step by step instructions!
