A tentative explanation for an observation, phenomenon, or scientific problem that can be tested by further investigation.
Basically a prediction you make, not knowing what will happen, and then you test it and see if you are right.

a hypothesis is an educated guess on what you predict will happen. never use the words maybe or ask it as if it were a question write it as a statement. given on the aquired data you have you should be able to make a hypothesis on whatever it is you are testing. if you prove your hypothesis correctly then you rerun the test and see if the reaction is the same. after a while you can say this is your theory. your theory will remain true until someone else disprooves your theory. if it is excepted into the scientific system it is then a scientific law. which is then accepted by everyone. scientific law example.....gravity. the earth is round. etc. hope i helped!

There are different kinds but basically it is a testable statement -
at least in formal experimental terms..
It is derived logically and consistently from specific theory.. has an explicit prediction which can then be confirmed or refuted by empirical investigation..usually experiment.
Null hypothesis is when the results of an experiment could have happened through chance rather than being able to say for sure x caused y.
Ofcourse in most experiments a null hypothesis cannot be ruled out hence why degrees of probability or correlation are then taken into play..

A hypothesis (from Greek á½ÏÏθεÏιÏ) is a suggested explanation of a phenomenon or reasoned proposal suggesting a possible correlation between multiple phenomena. The term derives from the ancient Greek, hypotithenai meaning "to put under" or "to suppose". The scientific method requires that one can test a scientific hypothesis. Scientists generally base such hypotheses on previous observations or on extensions of scientific theories.
