That's not entirely true. The congress actually mirrors society. When the population can't agree on an issue, neither can the congress. Fear is what is dividing us today. When have you ever acted reasonably when you are afraid?
The problem is the central leader, Bush, keeps pushing his agenda via means of instilling fear into the public psyche. When we are all fearful, he is able to present himself as the great savior.
The problem with this approach he is using is that it also serves the enemy's purpose. After all, they are terrorists. Instilling fear is their goal as well.
As Churchill once said: We have nothing to fear but fear itself.
Bush is leading us down the wrong path. We need a leader that will fear no evil.

OUr country is the greatest idea that never worked. Our system of government will always put the power in the hands of a few. The people will never have the last choice on anything. We should all rebel against this system of government and change it, but it will never happen.

"Divide and rule" has been a motto of governments since ancient Rome.
If there were more states with referenda like California the people would be more powerful.
If the poor saw the point of registering to vote & then voting they would carry more weight.
