its like in Spinal Tap, Everything goes up to 11. The letter A is used to represent 10.
So 20 would equal 22 in base 10, so 22+22=44 in base 10, so 20+20=40 in base 11. 40 changed into base 10 ==44
OK, not the most elegant explanation in the world, but I hope you get the idea.
