What's Werner?
Aren't all trucks "over the road?" I don't see many cruising through backyards and swimming pools.

As an owner operator for many years I did what all the other 10 million owner operators are doing- sold the truck and found a new occupation!
Do the math! Cost of the truck, maintainence, tires, $3 a gallon plus fuel cost, tolls, license plates, taxes, driver cost, load rates?
Are you telling jokes or what here???
Look at the BIG picture my man! Why do you thing Werner, JB Hunt, Schnieder, and the million other corporate conglomerates are attempting to do? HELLO! That's right! They want to dominate the market and get rid of ALL the owner operators!

my hubby drives over the road ( the past 22 years) we contimplated on a 2nd truck. And went against it.
1 - We didn't know anyone that would be reliable enough
2 - are they going to junk the truck because it isn't their own and just drive it and not worry about anything
3 - worker's comp, breakdowns, pay, income tax - we would have to hire a different accountant
I didn't realize that Werner pays that good? what is the % for a O/O without a trailer or would you have to purchase your own flat or van?
Good luck with your decision... It's a tuff one...

good idea, but you should get driving record, criminal record, require a physical/druug test etc. just like the big companies do. that person is going to be representing you and your name. you want someone that is professional in appearance, as well as attitude. also, just something to think about, especially since you would be "owner op" with a second driver, is make sure that you get the same amount of money for his runs that you do for yours, the pay would go to "you and you trucking co.", then you pay him the agreed amount, to avoid any hassles with taxes etc, sign him on a "contracted employee" making him responsible for his own taxes and get the proper paperwork signed and notarized stating the fact, so that he/she, cant come back on you for not taking out taxes.
my brother just did a lease purchase truck and he drives for the company that sold him the truck, he gets $1.55/mile and the company takes 1/3 of his check for truck paymnet, and he does his own taxes as an owner/op.

it would not be a bad idea to pocket some, it is your truck, right? and it would be great if you payed them more than a company. that is what drivers look for. no it is not hard to find a reliable driver, it just depends on their attitude and the way you work. good luck!
