i recently aquired a 16ft. fiberglass hulled caravelle boat with a bad transem & stringers. what type of materials should i use to re-build this boat for low cost?

You'll have to use marine grade plywood, polyurethane glue, fiberglass and gelcoat.

It sounds like a costly project if the wood is rotten in the transom and stringers. You have to get the old wood out and rebuild. Basically you need marine plywood for the transom and lots of Fiberglas mat and resin. As for the stringers...that's a big job. You need to remove them and then look for a suppler of stringer products to make the boat rigid again. I know for small sections of rotted out wood core, marine supply stores sell inject-able resin that fills any voids, but that's for small jobs

Best bet is talk to a fiberglass repair man.

As much as it is going to cost you both in time and money, I would say go and find yourself another boat.
