I have a Dell Inspiron that is 1.83 ghz with a gigabyte of RAM and an intel Centrino Duo processor, but when I try to watch a video on youtube for instance, it takes a while to load before I can actually watch it. I also have a wireless connection to cable internet that a desktop computer uses and sometimes my brother uses with his laptop. I have seen computers not as good as mine play the videos on youtube and other sites without having to wait for them to load. Is this a problem with my internet connection or is there some adjustment I can make to my laptop?

About the spyware/malware/viruses: This computer is only a few months old and I installed virus and spyware protetcion before I started using the internet. So, maybe I'm wrong, but I don't think that's the problem.

I'm not sure of the download speed of the modem or how to check it, my connection speed says 54 mbps. I'll look into the rest.

What's the download speed of your cable modem? Also, what's the speed of your laptop wireless connection to the router? You may have to get another antenna for your laptop that is a faster speed (wireless g for example) and upgrade your router to broadcast at wireless G speeds. Without knowing more info on your internet connect and antenna types, this is the best I can suggest right now. Also, check the networking and wireless networking forums on dslreports.com

It's probably a bandwidth issue. Especially when more than one machine is using the connection.

Assuming that your laptop isn't loaded with viruses and spyware, it's more than up to the task of playing YouTube videos without any problems.
