Star / celebrity who has used the fame gained from sporting / music etc to launch an acting career? I ask only because I'm watching a film (I know, I deserve everything I get), with Hulk Hogan in and it has to be quite possibly the worst piece of acting I have EVER seen. I know a lot of actors turn to singing (and generally make a hash of it) but I was wondering if there were any others?

One of the first to make that leap was Olympic swimmer Buster Crabbe, who played both Tarzan and Flash Gordon in the 30's - Sonja Henie made lots of Ice-Skating movies in the 40's, because she wasn't too swift at making "speaking English" movies - Esther Williams did the same with swimming, specializing in elaborate musical numbers with hundreds of extras in pools, on water skis, and even diving from airplanes - Burt Lancaster was a circus acrobat before turning to acting - but I'm thinking you'd want newer answers, so . . .
O.J. Simpson - was a running back before he was a fugitive
Jim Brown - should be a fugitive, his films are so bad
Patrick Swayze - parlayed a job as a dance instructor to films
Brian Bosworth - in "Stone Cold" - football yes, acting no
Jean-Claude Van Damme - the worst serial offender
Schrwartzenegger - was Mr. Universe before governating

Dwight Yoakam (country singer) has had fairly big roles in a few movies (Sling Blade and Panic Room come to mind). Surprisingly, he is a pretty good actor.

I got everybody beat with this one but does anyone remember Eddie Murphy and his singing carrer now thats what i call @*^&? and not only that he did it when he was doing his best films in the eighties,come on you know his early movies are the best.
