Honest typos, I have no problem with, what I do find contempt with is the deliberate misspelling of words and use of poor grammar. I will always call out someone that misspells the word intern when he/she has it listed as interm and then cries racism when they don't get hired. You should at least be able to spell the job you are applying for....In another question I answered the young lady asked which "skool" was better for black females...I'm not joking . Willfully showing ignorance is one thing, honest typos are another. Spellchecker doesn't know if you meant manager or manger.
If you want a serious answer then ask in a serious manner!!

Well, I do both (check my stats.) I can point out a misspelled word, AND answer a question. A good rule of thumb, however, is to make sure you are spelling correctly and use good grammar. Typo's are only distracting to what you're asking, and yes, if you take hints to spell check this ought to help you in the future, in life.
When I see a misspelled word, I'm thinking whoever wrote it is the 'dumb' person, and certainly not those who see the mistakes.
That's my opinion.

Sometimes if it is just a stupid question and it doesn't make sense, then I'll make it a joke and say something like "What, you didn't see the spell check above?" I only do that when the question is offensive, or if I think the asker is trying to be funny, but is an ignorant idiot. Most of the time, I don't point out mistakes, but when other people do, maybe they are just trying to be nice.

I don't see the point of pointing out people's mistakes. I mean most people type this stuff without doing spell check anyway and post before they look. I mean the human mind can decipher any word as long as all the letters of that word are there, so is it really killing anyone if words are misspelled. I know I don't care. It doesn't really stop the message they are trying to get across from seeping in, so it's of no real importance to me. I think the people who do this either have nothing of importance to say or they have control issues.

If they correct your spelling and make no attempt to answer the question then they have really gone out of their way. This would suggest some sort of neurotic disorder or other, like a "pet peeve" so to speak.
Others, might be genuinely trying to help but are unaware of how you might feel about it. Some may vehemently disagree with some pretense in your question so much that they wish to do whatever they can to ridicule you publicly. This typically backfires as thinking people readily see the fallacy of ad hominem discourse.
In short, I don't think in any particular way about people who correct spelling mistakes. You have to consider them on an indiividual basis. Precious little individuaity if apparent on this forum so I tend not to think about it at all. d:c)

If the only thing they have to say is something about the spelling, I get annoyed when they point it out. It's like they feel the need to be superior.
For you people that do it, do you also point out in conversation when people use imporper English? No, probably not.
When spelling and grammar get to the point that the question is hard to decipher, I just ignore the question. The worst are these kids typing in what can only be described as 3rd grade AOLer. "wit" instead of "with", no puctuation, "2" instead of "to" or "too", "4" instead of "for", and the like.

It´s funny because just now I answered this question in which I corrected the guy´s spelling. I did it because I wanted to show him the mistake he was making.I also once posted a question with two spelling mistakes and everyone who answered pointed out my two mistakes. I think we do it to correct really and maybe to show the other person wrong even though that´s not right.

I do it all the time.
It is part of my personal crusade to eliminate such needless boo-boos.
I don't have low self-esteem, I'm not dumb and I'm not being nice as such.
There is a check spelling function so really there is no excuse for such sloppiness.
I think it stems from my frustration at the desecration of the English language...
I may be a bit anal about it because my personal opinion is that the ability to read and write properly are the single most important abilities a person can possess.

Some of the questions have such bad spelling we can't even make the sentence out? And there's no reason for bad spelling. See that little green box above where you type the question or answer in? It says check spelling. It's there for a reason.

Well Yahoo does have a spell check, but sometimes it is down. Personally, it annoys me to have to decipher someone's spelling. Then there is the grammar. There are so many young ppl who are stuttering their text, using pitiful spelling that it makes me wonder if they ever went to school. And no, I am not dumb...I am a university professor, plus i have a reasonably high IQ. I am just lacking in common sense. Generally, if I read a question and the spelling and grammar is out of whack, I just go on to another one.
