I am trying to memorize everything from my Flight Attendant Manual.
Like announcements, glossary terms, etc. Does anyone have a great technique? Thanks

Good responses so far!

There are 3 general learning styles: visual, aural & kinesthetic (through the body, sense of touch) Everyone uses all of them but everyone is also dominant on one area. If you don't know, then use all three & your brain will use the most efficient way to process the information.

Personally I have found a tape recorder helpful (aural) into which I read what I was trying to memorize & then played back again & again. If you have a good visual memory, you may begin to see the words on the page when you close your eyes. If writing out the material helps, then that is the kinesthetic (body sense) learning style at work.

The mind is fresh early in the morning. Read the manual aloud first thing upon arising, focusing upon the parts you do not already know. You can refresh over the parts you do know only after doing some new material. Actually, it's good to see & hear it flow together. Also go over some of it last thing before going to bed. These techniques have worked for me.

I have tried mnemonics, but I remember the images better than the things they represent! Still, it might help you.

The last way I know of is the Socratic method. Mark twain also used it. You imagine a place that you know very well, such as your own bedroom. Then you mentally place each item to be recalled in a specific location of your mental bedroom. Do this one item at a time ( arrival/departure codes next to the teddy bear, etc.) and keep going over each item in the same order as you add the next one. This technique is good for a small number - say - a dozen items - but some of them can be baskets of smaller things (like the steps for a refund, for instance).

I admire your industriousness.

Good luck!

;-)

There are a lot of good techniques for memorization, and many are already listed here~!
All of them require repetition, repetition, repetition. There's no way around that.

Studies have shown that writing it multiple times will help if you need to write it to use it or if you need to write it to pass a written test on it.

If you need to say it orally, saying it out loud, over and over again really helps. For some reason, saying it while you are lying down (repeat it three to five times) seems to stick in your brain better.

If this is something you need to DO then you should practice saying it while you are doing it... pretend you are doing whatever you need to do while you verbally OUT LOUD say the steps. Do it while you're alone so you don't feel like a fool. Go through it at least three times like this, and when it comes time to do it, the muscle memory and brain memory all click in together to help you remember the steps.

The key is repetition, repetition, REPETITION!!!

Make up a song. Studies show that we memorize better when there is a beat with the words

type it out, and then do it again without notes, and see how much you remember. focus on what you forgot.
