I'm looking for some new games to play, and I was wondering what some of the best RPGs are, on any platform. Doesn't matter if it's old or new.

I already have some experience with newer RPGs, perhaps some older, more obscure ones? (ie, I have played Kotor, Jade Empire, FFX, etc.)

what platforms do you have?
------
nintendo has two especially good games. final fantasy and dragon warrior IV. dragon warrior III was good too. faxanadu was done decently enough for its' time.
------
sega has two gems. shining force II, which i didn't like much, is quite popular. also, phantasy star IV is top notch.
------
super nintendo has your most awesome options. final fantasy II and III. lufia I and II. secret of mana, secret of evermore, illusion of gaia are action/rpg like zelda-link to the past. earthbound and super mario rpg are good also. breath of fire II, and III. and never forget chrono trigger
-------
gameboy/color/advance has some great titles. pokémon among them. final fantasy tactics advance is a decent strategy game, as is tactics ogre. final fantasy I&II. final fantasy IV advance. final fantasy V and VI will be released soon. harvest moon is a winner with me. golden sun was great, too.
-------
N64 has zelda-ocarina of time, ogre battle 64, and paper mario
-------
playstation has harvest moon back to nature, ogre battle-march of the black queen, rhapsody-musical adventure, final fantasy VII, VIII, and IX, as well as final fantasy tactics. legend of dragoon didn't score big with me, but it's decent enough. chrono cross and suikoden are on the list too. also, you can't forget xenogears, even if the fighting gets boring halfway through the game.
-------
PS2 has disgaea and la pucelle, as well as final fantasy X. also, there's paper mario 2
-------
gamecube has zelda windwaker and harvest moon.
-------
DS has mario: partners in time, which is amazingly done. also has harvest moon.

If you haven't played Chrono Trigger (SNES, PS) and Chrono Cross (PS), you need to go play those immediately.
The Seiken Densetsu series is also fantastic, though I'd skip the first one and head straight for The Secret of Mana (SNES) or Legend of Mana (PS).
Final Fantasy IV, V, VII, X, Tactics, and Tactics Advance are also very worthwhile.
If most RPGs feel too similar for you in style and structure, try Earthbound or EVO. They're definitely peculiar, but highly engrossing.
There are other entertaining games out there, notably Legend of Dragoon, the Breath of Fire series, The Elder Scrolls series, and of course any other Final Fantasy game, but check out the games at the top of the list first.

Skies of Arcadia for Dreamcast is an excellent RPG. Shining the Holy Ark for Saturn is another really fun one. A couple great classics are Bard's Tale and Might and Magic II for Amiga.

I highly recommend all of them.

Morrowind and Crono Trigger come to mind, personally I think KotOR was the most I ever enjoyed an RPG though.

as an MMORPG, World of Warcraft is really addicting! ;) I don't play much else nowadays but I've heard the Mario RPG, Paper Mario, is also pretty fun.

you should try Baldurs Gate series if you like fantasy RPGs. If you want something you would spend your intelligence in it, the best one is Planescape:Torment.
