You may just be a little shy, and it may be a nervous reaction. It's a little like when people speak in public and they get nervous because then they are the center of attention, and they think people may be judging them negatively.

One way to figure it out for yourself is to ask yourself these questions:

Does it happen all the time even when you feel comfortable with your surroundings?
If not, what types of situations causes it to happen?

If it happens all the time it may be a medical condition. If it doesn't happen all the time, you may just need to recognize what types of situations cause it and then work on it from there. If you tend to be quiet and withdrawn, when you smile it brings you out of that withdrawn state and that may make you feel more noticeable and therefore uncomfortable.

If you think about it, I am sure you will figure it out.

You need to start to exercise your mouth, start making faces, and moving your mouth from side to side. This works, but it is going to take time.
