I've never traveled very far alone. I'm from the west side of New York. I'm scared that I will get lost, especially when I hit Connecticut. I've mapped my route on Yahoo. Is there any tips you can share with me about traveling alone? Thanks!!

You should be fine. Keep all the doors locked on your car for safety reasons. Take a cell phone. Also, do you belong to AAA? This is a good thing to have, especially someone that travels alone. If you have a breakdown, or even if you run out of gas, you can call them and they will come and help.

Make sure whenever you stop for gas, food or restroom, that the area is well lit, and there are plenty of people around.

You should be fine. My niece travels all over the country, from Rhode Island to California, Florida, Texas, and has even travelled to Korea & Japan by herself.

Make sure you understand the route on the map.
If you have a cell phone, take it with you. STOP the car to use it.
Don't travel through busy areas during morning (7-9) and afternoon (4-6)
Don't be in a hurry - be careful driving.

Take those directions with you. And take your time, that is most important, high traffic areas will be stressful, so try to avoid being in a hurry.Be sure to take your cell phone, and the charger. And also have a number in your purse for emergency case contacts(in case somethig happens). You don't really want to think that way, but nowadays anything is possible. So do drive carefully.

Just bring internet print outs. Also, if you have AAA they will give you maps and pre-highlight the exact routes you can take, and have larger shots of exact areas. Make sure you have a cell phone with you and a car charger in case it dies, and just don't be afraid to ask for directions.
