Because money can't buy happiness, or so they say, can't say I completely agree. I'll bet most billionaires are happier than most "poor villagers".

Probably because the villager has a better concept of reality and isn't trapped by the thought of having so much and the temptation of getting more and more. The billionaire has so many kissing his @ss because he is being used by others so they can acheive his level as well.
In other words, the villager may not have much but he sees that people will accept him for himself not for what he has. Take it from a fellow villager.

well life gets much more complicated when you have a lot of money, and if you're the type of person who isn't happy with a complicated life, you'd probably be happy as a poor villager. Also, its hard for billionaires to have true friends, money stigmatizes people and you never know if people are being nice to you because you have money, or because you're a likable person

The villager can start by esltablishing a belief system for themselves that places value on non-material things. By finding the beauty love and goodness in their surroundings, the poor villager will discover an endless treasure that never fades, deflates in value, or gets stolen. If you replace gold with smiles, exchange wealth for love, or spiritually buy in to peace and compassion, the rewards will be worth more than all of money in the world.

The poor villager can have just as a rewarding, happy life is he so chooses, by appreciating what he does have in life. Especially if he is loved. Money can buy you that fancy car and that big house and even "friends"...but true happiness comes from within...it comes from being loved and giving love. It comes from knowing you are doing everything to be the best you can be in your life. Happiness is knowing in your heart you are a good person...no one can take that away from you. I'm not rich, in fact we scrape by, we survive...and I love my life, because I love my husband and he loves me and I love my children and they love me. I'm happy knowing at night when I lay my head down on my pillow that I have this wonderful family. I'm lucky to be sharing my life with my soulmate...I feel content, safe and just joyous. I wouldn't trade my life for anyone elses no matter the money because money can't buy me my husband, my kids or love--which is indeed, happiness. Best wishes to you :)
