Sounds like it may be painful!! Alot of babies find it very uncomfortable when having a bowl movement. If your babies old enough try juices such apple juice it normally helps soften the poop. If your babies already eating foods stay away from starchy foods like bread, pasta, potatoes, etc. These foods make it harder on their system! Good luck!

How old is your baby? What does the poop look like? If it is hard you might be feeding the wrong formula or ???
The age needs to be known before the? can be answered.

Sometimes they get constipated, especially if being formula fed. You can try giving him a little water or apple juice if your doctor says it's ok.You didn't mention baby's age, but you can ask the doctor if it ok to give him gas drops (simethicone). These are great for little tummys and they work fast.

how old is your baby? The child could be constipated and it's hurting him/her. I went through the same thing with my 7month old, if it gets worse talk to your doctor about and they can give you something to help to baby poop easier

Has he had a change in diet? ie: started solid foods? If so, he may just be getting used to the change in diet. Otherwise, he may be constipated. Try giving him more water.
