If you have the cash, you can buy one at any age. You just wont be able to ride it until you pass your test. I think it will be about 24 before you will be able to ride a full power model with the changes to the riding laws.

You could always go to Gibraltar on holiday, take a test on any bike you want, if you pass you get your license within a week and return to the UK qualified, but you will still have to wait until your 17 and a half! aint that a kick in the nuts. You should also consider a smaller bike too, you are no where near ready enough to ride big bikes, take it from someone who's done a Direct Access Course and jumped on a 500 than after 6 months moved up to a 900 and went ar5e over t1t through a field in Scotland at 70mph, the injuries were nothing compared to the injuries my wife gave me after the cops called at her work.

For the united kingdom: there's no regulation governing what age you'll smoke tobacco there's a regulation stating that you may not promote tobacco to persons lower than 18 (develop into 16 till at the moment) there's a police skill to snatch tobacco from any individual lower than the age of 16 in public (yet this does not make it against the law to posses it) - youthful persons Act So in short there's no regulation saying you may not smoke lower than 18 or 16. yet when the police discover you in public they could take tobacco from you if you're lower than 16.

check out www.dsa.gov.uk

you can ride a moped at 16 provided you have passed your cbt and you display l plates and don't ride a moped higher than a 125cc.

at 17 you can take your cbt on a 125 motorbike and then take your test on a bike of no higher than 125 cc, and ride it for 2 years then you atomatically qualify for moving on to a bigger bike or if you dont want to wait 2 years, take a direct access course and if youpass you can ride any bike of any cc from the minute you pass

but like i said check out the DSA website (driving standards agency) they will have the most up to date information for you

hope this helps

good luck

I have been riding off and on for 36 years, from 50cc to my latest 1100cc aquisition. Please start with a smaller bike.
Get something in the 250cc to 500cc range. It isn't the power so much as the weight - any bike can go fast enough to kill you. But a lighter bike is more forgiving while you're learning and perfecting your traffic skills. As your confidence builds you can trade up.

Save your 16-year old self the trouble of lusting after a literbike and start playing Russian Roulette with a semi-auto. The outcome will be the same anyway.

16yr olds shouldnt be allowed to have a licence to ride anything!.
I think you can only take your CBT on a 50cc. Some oolder people take a DAS course on a 500cc bike which i believe will allow you to take your test on a 500 and if you pass ride any bike.

Phone DVLA,DSA or a few local training schools and ask!

Take a motorcycle safety course and then drive it safely. There have been lots of crashes and deaths here in Canada when guys get those bikes they can't control them properly. Be safe rather than dead.

I would not recommend a litter bike for a beginner. You have to learn to walk before you can run ! Start of with a smaller bike, and as you increase your skills you can move up !
