Good top speed over 200 mph? There are very few riders in the world good enough to ever reach 200 mph on the open road. Most MotoGP riders are capable, but many never ride on the highway as it is too dangerous. Go figure!

Most modern sports bikes are capable of achieving 200m.ph with a little tuning. The only one that I am aware of that does it as standard is the Hyabusa GSX1300R. I know this seems limited but beleive me it's the only way there is no cheaper way of going fast, compare the sub 10 grand price of a new hyabusa to the 100 grand plus of most super cars. Let me just ask you if you have ever been fast on a bike, I have a kawasaki 750 and that scares the life out of me at 150 m.p.h You also have to consider the mind bending acceleration you can get out of any sports bike and ask yourself whether by the time the car has got to optimum speed if the bike would be across the line!!!!

To my knowledge there are no standard production bikes that can crack 200, the Hyabusa comes close but any decent sports bike will always see off any super car on acceleration, unless you ride the German Autobahn everyday then 200mph does not enter the equation. Pound for pound you get much more thrills from a bike than you do a car.

Very true. It's because bikes aren't (can't be) very streamlined like cars. At higher speeds air resistance is the most important thing, and cars win.

To the guy above. To get a Hayabusa above 200 would require a lot more than "tuning". You'd have to increase its' horsepower by at least 50%. Air resistance is a _very_ powerful thing at those speeds. And modifying things mean all bets are off. Modified cars can out accelerate a stock Hayabusa, or increase their top speeds even more.

It's not the top speed, it's how it gets there. How much would you have to spend on a car that does 0-60mph in under 4 seconds? Most bikes over about £5000 (and let's face it, buying used you can get a decent older Fireblade/ZX-9R/GSX-R for less than half that) will quite easily.

All you guys are always about hayabusa, the kawasaki zx12r could do it. Both the hayabusa and zx12r were unrestricted before 2000. Both their speedo's showed 220, but that doesn't mean they could reach that, but who knows, possibly so. Also there is a new ducati liter bike that goes 200. It cost about 30 grand. But you can defintly mod those bikes to get up there.

i only know of 1 bike that is quite capable of doing this. the marine turbine technologies y2k. with a 250 mph (est) top speed this sounds like the bike 4 u. its $150,000 though. the reason it goes so fast is instead of using a conventional engine they used a gas turbine engine from a helicopter (a bell jet ranger) another unusual feature is that it runs on any fuel but diesel is the norm as this burns more efficiently.

they dont have good top speed? What do you have? I cant think of many cars that can run speeds that stock bikes can, especially for $10,000.
