My mom taught elementary school, and I can tell you what she would say.

The most rewarding part was making a connection with the kids. She teaches middle school now, and some of her former elementary kids, who are that age now, are still excited to see her.

The most frustrating part is having administration tell you how to handle your kids. Today there is such a coddling feeling in schools. My mom never got middle-of-the-road kids. She either had gifted or mentally disabled. They would always tell her to teach the gifted kids at a lower level so no one would get jealous, or to let the slower kids act however was natural for them--even though that doesn't help them in the long run.

I hope you can use that, since it's not my personal experience.

The most rewarding part of the job is the relationship you get to form with your students and other students in the school. You get to hear about things in their lives and be a big part of their lives. You also get to watch their minds work. You can watch a kid go from not understanding at all to mastering a concept, and that in itself can be really fun.
The most frustrating part of the job is the unending amounts of work. I always have piles of things waiting for me to grade them. Even if you finish grading everything, it only lasts a few hours until the kids do a little more work. It's also frustrating how teachers are left to be everything to some children. Some parents expect a teacher to not only teach their child, but also parent the child. It can be frustrating when a kid isn't given what they need at home.

The most rewarding part of my job is when I get letters from my students parents', saying that they have seen such an improvement, I do get frustrated sometimes but i am with children with special needs, so it gets complicated,,, but nothing really frustrates me except when we have school meetings that take me away from my class.

I actually teach pre-K but I would say that when you see a kid "get it". The first time you see a kid write his/her name, or discover something for the first time or when you see a kid make huge progress. I would never do anything else but teach.

Its also great when you get recognition from the parents.
