Why do you feel you need to tell him? Telling him would only make you an easy target for sex. He will know that all he has to do is play the game a little while and he will get lucky.
Why not just get to meet him. Maybe see if he wants to show up at places where you like to go or find out the places he likes to go and just show up there. Just hang out with him and he will catch on that you are a best friend and then start setting closer to him.
Telling him or having someone tell him or even a note just means one thing to me. I'm going to get lucky.. Whooo Hoooo.. I'd be telling my friends how much of a stud I am and that I'll be to the party a little later because I'm go get laid first. Brag brag brag.
You are setting your self up for a bad thing just by approaching it incorrectly.

First off, the note idea I know all too well... no. That will probably irk him. You saying it on a note is not the number one idea but I can understand what you are thinking. However, if you can try saying it to his face. That would be great, it's freaky and worrying type of act but I did that once and got a better response then I did on notes... But hey, good luck.

Walk up to him ,smile and say ,hi do you know where I can find...? or I love your shirt- your book -your iPod...I'd like to get one can you tell me where...something like that...when & how he answers will tell you a lot... watch him.. make eye contact..does he look at you ? w/ a smile? does he kep walking or stop and face you ...Lady Huntress the guys still like to THINK they are in controll of this game let him think he is...you will know if he is not interested and no harm no foul...If you send yor friend off to this task I shall think you are a twit ! he may as well... if he is worth anything..or over 7 yrs old...You could also try "hey cuttie wanna go get a ...?( coffee- lunch...cd....)Just have fun ...

Words mean so much more to a person when you tell them yourself, in person, and with no distractions. Never let your best friend tell your crush you like him...he'll only think you're immature. Good luck!
