I've been looking into this myself (but am less handy DIY-wise).My findings were that the easiest (ahem) method seems to be to buy a kit with a motor in your front wheel hub (effectively replacing your existing front wheel). The cheapest way to power is by lead-acid battery which will be heavy but cheapish to buy and replace. I have seen an ultra cheep diy method for approx 55 quid but it looks a trifle heath robinsonesque as it uses the friction method applied directly the the tyre.Sadly the hub based kits don't leave much change from 350 quid which approaches the 1st level price of el cheapo electric bikes complete.

By pushbike are you referring to pedals? If so, you cannot do so without spending. The motor needs to be around 1/3 horsepower or larger. The power source would be a large battery. You need to convert the power to a form the motor could use if it is not already in that form. You need a means to control the motor speed. You need a way to mount all this on the bicycle.
Ask yourself the following questions. Can I get these materials? How heavy are they going to be? Can I mount them in a manner that will not upset balance? What do I do if/when I run out of power in a place where it is not opportunistic? Do I have an alternative means of getting the cycle from place to place? Will any moving parts pose a safety hazard such as getting clothes caught in rotating equipment?
You can do it; it will cost. I don't know what you think is too much, but unless your junkyard has this stuff you might be better off buying an electric bike or scooter.
