Yuck!!! I don't think fleas have a point!!
To get rid of them, you're going to have to work, though. Fleas go in cycles and the products used to kill them work on the fleas, but not the eggs. You'll need to get a bug killer that works for fleas and use it evey 30 days for at least 3 months and perhaps longer with an icky infestation like you've got there.
It would have been much better if you had Chili Pepper Fleas, for sure.

OMG, that must have been gross! Yeuch! :(
Fleas are parasites that suck blood. Because they go from animal to animal, they can and do spread disease bigtime, like the blubonic plague that wiped ouit about a quarter or a third of the population of Europe alone, and was the end of Ghengis Khan's army and reign over Asia.
I hate fleas. I used to do the same work, and sometimes you don't notice the flea until it has fallen off your leg and is so fat that it can't stand up. OMG! Gross! Pop goes the fleasel like a grape, and there is a drop and a half of blood there on the floor. :(
Other than that, I don't think there is any point to fleas. They are nasty parasites, and can sometimes infest so heavily that they are almost predatory and can amaciate the host animal and make it anemic and die. The fleas we mostly experience are cat fleas, even the ones on our dogs.
So gross. :( That would give me the shivers, seeing my foot like that. Eeek!

I really hope I can answer this due to some difficulty with the question. Whats the point in fleas???? To me that is like asking what is the point in air.
What I think you were asking is why would someone live in those conditions. "Who knows" However, to get rid of them with hardly no cost to the owner is: " Simple Green" It's a disinfectant cleaner, but it works. 1/3 Part to 3/4 water. makes your house smell clean too. Got this information from a professional exterminator.

Science answer: Fleas are food for other animals and insects, they are also hosts for parasitic worms. They have a place in the food chain, just not a comfortable one for us.
Spiritual answer: Suffering, even just itchy bites helps us be grateful when the itching stops, it makes you realize how good life can be. As in, "At least it's just itch and not dismemberment, or the death of a loved one".
That's how I see it anyway.

Fleas are the tiniest exercise machines available. All dogs and cats know this. They allow for sufficient exercise for sedentary pets. Even humans can benefit from the little machines. They make you exercise. They are also fun party helpers to get a party off to a hilarious good time for all!
There are SO MANY uses for them. Just use your imagination.
Hope this helps :)

The point of fleas is the same as the biological point of all life forms...that is to survive long enough to pass on its genes i.e. breeds. With this in mind we share a 'biological point' with fleas, whales, roses & penguins...
They need the blood (from your bite) to breed/complete their lifecycle

That is a very good question, its like why do humans get nits? They exist because god made them, just like any other insect. If you find out let me know too. And I always thought when they arnt sucking blood off an animal or human they would die?
