I'm wondering what they will do if they don't take back at least one house of Congress? They yave wasted so much time and effort saying how much they hate Bush I'm not sure I even want them to take back a house.

When the Republicans took both houses from the Democrats they did it with the Contract With America. Since then the Democrats haven't even acknowledged they are the minority party.

If I were running the DNC I'd be pushing the same Contract With America and citing the Republicans for breach of contract.

OK maybe it's not such a good match to advocate CWA if you are a Democrat but it beats 'vote of me, I'm not a Republican who likes Bush'. There are Republicans who can say the same thing. What is really the difference?

We make too much out of political parties today anyway. Joe Lieberman is a Democrat (even if he's running as an independant) and so is Chuck Schumer. But today I'm not sure just how much they would really agree on.

See where I'm gong with this? I actually want to see a strong Democratic party. I don't like one party controlling both Houses of Congress AND the White House. I want something that forces compromise, negotiation, and cooperation to get something done. And that isn't happening today in DC.

Times I have liked in the past were under split powers.

You mean when we take the white house again. One can only hope that suicide would be there answer. If only that would be the case. What will happen however is that when they loose again they will just keep on doing what they have been doing which is attack, attack, attack. If the democratic party every wants to win the presidency again they have to drop the libs and go mainstream, but that will never happen.

If it is someone who can actually do a good job, it doesn't matter what party they are from. Both sides are fed up with the current administration. Anyway, there would be rebellion in the streets before there would be a mass suicide, so stop fantasizing.

I find it sad when I see people who have succombed to the Rove doctrine, where people who have a different political belief are no longer fellow Americans. History shows a nation falls into ruin when democracy is removed and diversity purged. I may show my ire at Bush and his cabinet for the crimes they have committed, but I don't attack the entire GOP party with slander and death wishes, despite my disappointment in their migration to the extreme right.

On the bright side, even more people will be fed up with the GOP than they are already are. It would be a pryhic victory, and a problems for Democrats if they win too.

Another fine mess.

Yeah, and that is likely to happen, right. Repuglicans may never be allowed to be in the white house ever again after this debacle of the presidency. What a loser the repuglican concept of life is. You are a good example.

Most of our problems with the Muslim world stem from our own greed. In 1953 Iran wanted to nationalize the oil industry but the Brits had a company there called the Anglo Iranian oil co. that had interests in the oil. They were offered money for their interests but turned it down. Truman did not interfere but when Eisenhower got in they were able to convince him that Iran was in danger of allying with the Russians so with the aid of British and American intelligence they brought the shah to full power. The shah eventually became a brutal dictator but the people revolted and replaced him. This also led to the invasion by students of our embassy there. My point in telling you this is that in many ways we are responsible for the hate against us.
Reagan did nothing to try to sooth relations and in fact encouraged Saddam Hussein in his war with Iran. So you can blame who you wish, but to me it seems we got ourselves into this quandary and the best course of action would be to admit past mistakes and try for better relations. I really don't buy the fact that most Muslim nations really don't want peace with us. They know they would be annihilated if they were to seriously damage this country say with a nuclear or biological attack.
