you need to go into the menu, and change the settings for the mini display (secondary display) it only shows the time and if you have a message... it dims to save battery....also do a master reset, settings, initial setup then, master reset at the bottom

Try putting the battery in that sometimes helps .... after charging for a day if the phones new.
