Assuming human civilisation is still in existence, what will the political geography of the world be like at the start of the 22nd century?

Personally I think all of Europe, including Russia and parts of the Middle East and North Africa will have joined into a giant European superstate.

I think China will totally dominate Asia as far as Afghanistan and Indonesia, possibly in another giant superstate, perhaps with Pakistan and India remaining the only independent countries.

Australia and New Zealand will remain independent due to their isolation.

I think many countries in South America will unite in some kind of communist revolution.

Africa will be an ignored wasteland.

In an effort to keep up with Asia/Europe, I think the United States, Canada and Mexico will become more integrated.

I know it all sounds a bit 1984, but some of these changes could happen more easily than we might think.

With the current integration in business and politics, with more countries seeking to empower themselves and to gain from economies of size and number, there may be fewer countries by then. There is every tendency for europe to come together and become one country with the exception of Britain, possibly. Africa is also driving towards forming a union instead of a congress of nations and could later metarmorphose into a country continent.

Another factor would be the need to protect human life better. The present American status of World police martial is threatening many countries and one of the readily available solution is cooperation between countries and formation of lager mega-countries.

Yes I think that may happen. Peoples tempers flair up and someone will attack another and then the allies will be brought in and create another world war. Then after that it will bind other countries together like the EU and then more will follow for protection from the others. Like a domino theory.

I hope it has no countries. If we had no countries we wouldn't have any of today's problems. After all. they are only man made lines drawn on a map. We are all part of the same planet, and should live as such.
Wouldn't we find it amazing if we visited another planet, and found that the people had divided themselves into little groups, and set up boundaries between groups that needed an whole host of people to administer, for no apparent reason.

John Lennon had it right.
Imagine there's no country,
Nothing to fight and die for.

I love to toss ideas like this around. I believe there will be fewer people a 100 years from now. As for countries, you could be right. Who knows yet? Keep up the brain-storming. It staves off Alzheimer's disease!

I think this is very interesting. Not that farfetched. Seems like Australia would be a nice place to be.
