Leg cramps are usually caused by electrolyte imbalances. Electrolytes are sodium, potassium, phosphorus, magnesium and calcium. Start taking multivitamins with minerals, and see your doctor for some lab work. A simple blood test will reveal which electrolyte is off balance. If they get too far out of whack they can cause some serious problems with your heart.

1) Drink more water, as this is often an early sign of dehydration.
2) Secure your foot to the ground, put all of your weight on that leg, and strech it out as far as you can while still pushing into the ground.
3) While you're down there, check for moles and ant hills.

When I was pregnant, I had really bad leg cramps and my Dr. told me to eat more bananas. Have one or two every day. It really does help.

Since all the discussion about the intake of salt, many people, most likely like yourself, have cut out too much salt especially in hot weather. Without overdoing it, add a little more to your meals and you should stop having them...........

bananas and orange juice should become part of your daily food intake, my friend. lack of potassium can cause this. you may want to ask your doctor for a prescribed potassium suppliment as well, as potassium in sufficient amounts is difficult to get from diet alone. good luck!
