And how to approach him/her? How long will that last? For a lifetime? How many do you have?

did their life turn out the way you want your to ?
did they use methods that are honest and acceptable?
this is the person you want to be your mentor.
first you try just being their freind, and see if they are open to teaching you. the more they teach you, you begin to slide into that spot. if they do not want to teach you, or to be your freind, than its unlikely they are who you though they were.
how long does that last?
well, the student surpasses the teacher, it all depends on how long that takes, but after they are no teaching you anymore, they are still your freind, but that has grown to a deel level.
and you will always think of them.

Well a mentor is usually someone who is higher up in the career you want. Just approach them and ask, that's the easy part.

How long will it last depends on how much you can get out of them. If you eventually don't need them anymore, then its over and you'll probably move to friends.

I have or had a mentor, I guess she still is. It just happened and neither of us knew that's how it would turn out. I don't think you ask, it just happens when the combination is just right. You don't want to choose someone and have them be wrong for you.

To this day this woman is my role model, she's about 82 now and everything I ever accomplished I attribute to her. All these years later I still talk about her and the last time was yesterday. I think it's a special connection that we are lucky to find. When in doubt I call her and she even does e mail these days, she is one sharp old cookie who always has the right answers for my personality, she knows how I operate very well.

First of all a mentor for what, life in general, a job sports what? A lot of people have God fathers and they double as a mentor, but in reality you need someone who is number 1 a nice person who is intelligent who you respect and would follow his advice and he as to be a guy who also is willing to take you undeer his wing, good luck!
