is ballistic h20 a possibility or just an urban myth?

A high powered air rifle (you can modify them to reach outlawed uk firearm capacity) would probably do the trick. And yes, air rifles can actually kill you.

Imagine that, ice bullets that disappear without trace when melted. It would be the sniper or assassins dream.

this is how a bullet works: you pull the trigger and that releases the hammer. the hammer hit the firing pin, which sends it flying forward. the firing pin strikes the primer (some cartridges have a tiny primer in the middle, some the entire backis the primer) on the back of the cartridge. the impact causes a spark and that causes the gunpowder to ignite and explode. the resulting pressure from the explosion forces the bullet out of the cartridge at high speed. the bullet then goes down a (usually) rifled barrel to increase accuracy and speed. when the bullet leaves the barrel, you get the noise (and the flash if in a darkened area) of the internal explosion. how the empty cartridge leaves depends on the type of gun.

so, an ice bullet would not be possible. the rifleing would eat away at the bullet as it goes down the barrlel. also the explosion required to fire the bullet would blast a sizeable chunk, if not all, of the bullet away. now assuming someone could make an ice bullet, how would you transport it without melting. a thermose will only work for the bullets not in the magazine. and having a gun where you must manually put each round in the chamber would only work for a high precision sniper rifle, which ice would be unfit for due to its fragile nature. so if possible (which i strongly doubt), its simply not practicle. whats the advantage?

now you could make a massive artillery gun and have it fire out enourmus ice chunks. but modern shells explode and are very accurate, both things a giant chunk of ice lacks. so once again, lead wins over h2o.

guess youll just have to stick with a super soaker.

I think under the right conditions it would be possible.
Obviously the target would be in a very cold place as would the 'assassin'(rifle go to be cold). Sufficient amount of lubrication for the inside of the barrel. High grade, low temperature grease would do it. And crucially, the right amount of wadding, and right material, to protect the frozen projectile from the onrush of super heated gasses behind. As soon as the projectile, and gasses, reach the end of the barrel, again crucially, the gasses would spread out immediately and chill rapidly in the surrounding temperature. Leaving your unmarked and untraceable bullet to strike your target and leave P.C.Plod baffled.

Currently, the heat of firing a weapon vaporizes a bullet made of ice. Thus, use of ice bullets would require a breakthrough in firearms, allowing a projectile to be launched with minimal meat generation.

hmmmm , its possible.Use liquid nitrogen to cool the barrel when fire , or if the bullet is very very cold.Remember they use an insulation between the gun powder and ice , it might would work.Even if you had to separate the firing mechanism that can solve the problem.how about a crossbow ???.And it depend on distance to be fire at , air causes friction as well.Faster the hotter the surface temp.

Stick to a crossbow with ice bolt

fired form and air rifle it would be a possibility as there would be no explosion or heat to cause damage to the projectile

no its not possible because of the heat when firing it as DavidK93 said, but dam that wud hurt !
