K, it was my last day of work a few months ago in an old job, and we finished at 4pm.. so I got my stuff and left. He doesn't do jack, he was just a lazy priviledged geek who got handed his job. So he threatens to not give me a reference if I didn't mop the floor.

So he started shouting at me and called me a skiver. When he worked weekends and I worked ALL week, ALL year round. But instead of hitting him I put the finger in his face and told him to go to hell. The real question is: when the shouting started, screw the cameras, I should have hit him in the face really hard, right?

The funny thing is most companies will no longer give references (good or bad) these days, for legal reasons. So you really didn't lose a reference and honestly do you expect someone you clash with this badly to give a good one anyway? But you could've been brought up on charges of assault and that would've sucked.

The biggest thing is, that you will always have some @ss of a coworker and it'll do you good to find a way to control your anger. Having to deal with these people day and out is enough, why let them ruin your day or week too?

You are always better off to walk away in these types of situations. Even though the little voice of consciousness in your head, which governs the way that you act; was reacting in the fight mode, this is not a good solution. You could have be brought up on charges for assault and ended up defending yourself in a lawsuit over hitting him. You are much better off to just walk away, even if you really want to punch him; with your dignity and not lower yourself to his level. Rise above the turkeys and soar with the eagles. People who treat employees in this fashion are really insecure, and pushing others around make them feel like they are the "boss" and in charge. If they were truly the "boss" they would be able to communicate in an adult fashion. Have a good day!

You didn't did you ?
Now, out here where it is safe, you can play tough guy...
At the time, you were either afraind of him kicking your butt or getting thrown in jail or both..
BOTH, are what you would have deserved for being such a fool.
Now settle down and get back to reality...

Only if you wanted a lawsuit and you felt the need to drop yourself down to his level.

No, because you would have lowered yourself to a level he could have used to further "tarnish" your record.
