Oklahoma and other areas of the central USA were covered by water millions of years ago.

How do you know?

Because of the rocks. Some kinds of rocks are formed from the skeletons of animals that live in the sea... you can see those rocks forming in areas that are under the sea this minute, and if you go to OK and other areas, you can see the rocks that were formed long ago. This would mainly include limestone and chalk, but also, various shales and other sedimentary rocks.

These kind of rocks have a lot of fossils of fish, shellfish and other sea creatures. If you live in OK you should be able to start a terrific fossil collection.
