I took a pregnancy test this morning that says I am pregnant and according to my last period, I am almost 6 weeks along. When I went to the doctor last week, I went because I was having pelvic pain. Since he couldn't find anything wrong in the exam, he did a vaginal ultrasound and told me that I had an enlarged uterus and cystic ovaries. How could he see all this and not the embryo? I am now really scared that something is wrong, that it is maybe a tubal pregnancy.

The enlarged uterus is due to the pregnancy, and the cyst is likely a corpus luteal cyst, caused by pregnancy. This cyst provides the hormones necessary to stop the period, and sustain the embryo until it fully implants and the placenta takes over. Your gynecologist should have highly suspected pregnancy from the ultrasound findings. If the embryo is four weeks, as it would be in this case at most, it is quite possible for it not to be visible yet. Find yourself another provider, and try not to worry. Make sure you call and tell them you had a positive pregnancy test today! The best of luck to you! If you begin to have sharp, excruciating pain on only one side, an ectopic pregnancy would be more suspect. Please go to your ER of choice if you experience this kind of pain.

Vaginal Ultra sounds are NOT always accurate. I had to have a DnC done a while bakc and they said the same thing to me the reality was i just had a lineing built up. The ultra sound may have missed the embryo its common and no nothings wrong with you and she would have noticed the tube pregnancy. When i had my first kid apricot it was horrible for the first month lots of pain. I think its normal

Because you might not have been far enough along to see anything in your uterus. If you are "almost 6 weeks" along that means you are still only 5 weeks and if you went last week that means you were only 4 weeks... that's REALLY early to see anything.

I heard that it takes time for the sac to show...Did the doctor give you a pregnancy test?....That's what would detect the pregnancy hormones, even if it couldn't be seen yet.

At 4 weeks + things would still be pretty small. He may not have noticed it.

Do go back to be sure though.
