Yes, immediately. It's called statutory rape. In the United States, both parties must be eighteen or older.

Don't take my word for it, though -- look it up and see for yourself.

I believe so...

I hate that law. I mean what if you're 17 and your partner is 19, an age difference of 2 years could put someone in jail?!

I think it's a stupid law, some/most of the time.

the age of consent is 16 in florida.

he would get put in jail if he slept with a minor, if he was over 24 and slept with someone at the age of 17 or 18

I'm pretty sure age of consent varies state to state. People who say "absolutely!" outright....might not be aware of that. I'm not sure what the age is in Florida. Worst case scenario: you have to wait a couple more months.

That depends strictly on the laws of the State. The age of consent varies from state to state. If you are past the age of consent it is NOT statutory rape regardless of what those who do not know what they are talking about on here will say....

Yes. He could go to jail for statutory rape.

With that said, I started dating the man who is now my husband when I was 17 (he was 22).

since you are over 16 you can only be with someone 21 or younger until you hit 18, that is just how it is and thats the law.

I always thought the legal age is 16, isn't it?
Or is it only apply to straight couple?
