If people from Poland are called Poles, why
aren't people from Holland called Holes?

well ,it helps us to speak English more politically correct.Eg i am going to polish my Polish, get it.Polish my shoes and the Polish ppl.
And the ppl from Netherlands are on there own.The dutch , eg flying Dutchman...Never the less if the poles had a accident driving in to a pole (pole , street pole light pole etc...), You would have a hell of a hard time explaining that one to the world ..???/

That is there decision to be called Poles which sounds better than Holes.

Because only the Brits call 'The Netherlands' Holland.

Pole and Polish is the same as Briton (singular) and British (collective). It beats calling them Polishmen, I guess.
