NO NO NO!!!!!!!!! Do not run an A/C on it's side. The lubricating oil runs out of the compressor and the motor and pump inside the sealed steel container are suspended on springs and they will break causing banging and clanging and breaking of components.
You need a casement window unit. Any substitutions will not work.

if you can pop out the window from the inner frame you can turn the window around so the air conditioner will fit correctly ( my son was able to do this)
Or you will have to buy a casement window A/C

No...This will definitely burn up the compressor. The oil will not lubricate the valves and the compressor will burn up. It may last a few hours, but you will be burning up your money. Just like a refrigerator that is laid down on its' side. You should not plug it back in for a few hours to give the oil time to settle back down to the bottom of the compressor to prevent it from burning up. Good Luck!!!

No because there is oil in the compressor and it will drain out of it unless sitting upright. You will burn it up if you try to sit it on it's side and run it.

Most likely not. The condensation would short it out in a few hours.
