I have always wanted to be a fashion buyer. I'm just about to start my GCSEs and I know I need work experience to get where I want to be. What kind of work experience do I need? Any tip on becoming a buyer? What sort of qualities would I need? Any comments are welcome!!!

Keep a careful eye on all the trendy women magazines: VOGUE (the most iconic), Elle, Cosmo....You can even ask them questions via their websites.

You should be keen on what's new and what's the latest trend in fashion. To become a good fashion buyer, you must be open to knew ideas and not be biased with your own personal taste. A fashion buyer must ALWAYS consider what the market/customer wants.

I s'pose a basic knowledge of what's 'in' in the season and what suits certain body shapes and skin types. Reading about these things will help and also if you have a style of you're own that helps b/c it would be pretty stupid to be a fashion buyer if you have no style yourself.

You could do an entern ship....or start as an in store merchandiser in most higher up retail posistion you have to work your way up...even with a degree. Or you have to know someone who is willing to hire you with out the experience. You could also try working for a small bis. first.

Get a brain and you'll see that none of that fashion BS matters. But oh well, if you want to be a useless pariah to society, go ahead.
