well it depends on how much u trust that friend of yours i once asked my friend to hold 10,000 dollars for me for 2 months and it worked well a safety deposit box works well too i would recommend a safety deposit box that way u will know where it is at all times and if something happened to the lottery ticket lets say your friend losted it your friendship might go downhill so a safety deposit box at the bank is the way to go

It's probably not a good idea to give it to your friend but, if you rent a safe deposit box, you should not only put the ticket in there, but put in some other of your possessions that are just as likely to appreciate. Things like that broken pocket knife in the dresser drawer, your old watch with the dead battery, and the broach you got for Christmas that looks like two geese having sex. That stuff has about the same odds of winning as a lotto ticket.

You know money is the root to all evil, people will do some crazy things to get it. I'm not saying your friend will steal from you, but on the other hand, I wouldn't want to take the risk of finding out. If you're going somewhere, why don't you just take the lottery ticket with you, unless you tell them, nobody's going to know that you have it.

If you have enough doubts about this question that you are asking it on Yahoo! Answers, I'd go with the safety deposit box.

Is your question hypothetical or you do have a winning lottery ticket in your possession? If you really have one, let me know and I can help you collect it! (Ha..Ha..)

Anyway, seriously speaking, unless the prize money is huge, like 3-digit millions, and you are required to complete certain formalities, you should cash it immediately, as suggested by The Great Inquisitor! In any case, you ought to register your winning ticket within a stipulated period of time.

you still the ticket in your hand? i would have collected that the same or next day. i would know then that i have it( the money) and there is no risk of losing the ticket.
as to trusting a friend i am not a shop or a department store.

Its a sad thing, if people dont have a friend that they can trust with their life, let alone a lottery ticket... I'd leave it with my friends....
