If you would like to stay near the city center and at a low cost, the recommendation of Camelia is not a bad choice. It is fairly inexpensive ($30/day) and is near the center. If you would like something more expensive (better/more-star hotels), you could go to Guoman ($70), Melia ($80-$90), Hilton Opera ($120) or Sofitel ($140.)

From the airport to the city center, the ride takes around 40 minutes (more traffics closer to the city.) A bus ride would cost you around $3 USD. A taxi ride would cost you around $10 USD, though you could negotiate that down, especially if you share that with another companion/passenger.

what are your requirements for a "best place"?
i know a hotel nearby the Old quarter - qhich is the shoopping centre - called "Camellia Hotel". Some of my foreign friends came and stayed there and they were very pleased to it. it's not a luxirious hotel, but it's okie for a short trip. here is the email address so you can ask them more: camellia81tb@vnn.vn
