As a suggestion, take Trevellers Cheques instead, bank rates aren't great and the £ usually gets a better cash rate locally, if you know where to shop. if you have a guide booked ask them when you get there.

Also if you are staying in a good hotel they will be able to help you with immediate cash!!

below a currency converter I have used it is very good and close to true.

No, you can not get Moroccan dirhams abroad.

The reason for this is that the dirham is a "closed currency". That means that you can not take it out of the country. The rule goes for tourists as well as banks.

Some countries have a closed currency so they can control the value. If the dirham was available abroad and traded freely on currency markets, the value could drop. That would hurt the Moroccan economy.

You can get dirhams at all border posts except the border with Mauritania. There are exchange offices and ATM's at all airports and ferry ports.

If you take a few bank notes out of Morocco as a souvenir, no one will mind. But do not bring thousands of dirhams with you as you return home. That could be seen as currency smuggling.

Don't know wether this is a general question or that you are travelling there. I'm pretty sure ( but not 100%) that Morocco is one of those countries that doesn't like its money to leave home. Best thing to do is ring round the Banks. We happened to have euros when entering and managed to use them in petrol stations, restaurants and supermarkets with no problem at all. We got dirhams on the credit card from the atms.
Have fun.

How does Trading Work? I can say you that take a look at this site ( http://forexsignal.kyma.info ) may be it can help you. It 's one of the best course about trading. It seems like Trading is almost totally based on Macro-economics. It also strikes me that since there are not nearly as many currencies as there are stocks/bonds/derivatives etc etc, there must be a large number of market players in each currency bracket. So logically, currencies must be very liquid true? Also, what is the risk of Currency trading, high or low? When I read the business section every day I notice that the Canadian loonie moves hardly a tenth of a cent on a regular basis (in comparison to the US dollar). So it seems like theres very little room for growth in currencies unless you leverage. On that note, whats the maximum leverage permitted for forex trading. I know in stocks its x2, and in derivatives its x10. Anyway the only way to know how to start a profitable buisness is by following some methods like the one that I suggested.

I just got back from a holiday in Morocco and although we didn't change the money until we got over there it is possible to do it in the bank in the UK. You'll need to order them in advance though. However, we waited and changed the money at the airport in Marrakesh, and most hotels will change it for you too. We got a good exchange rate. I would also suggest taking your bank card with you. There are plenty of cash machines and also in most of the shops and even in the souks, some of the stalls accept credit cards.

One suggestion I would make is not to take all of your money out with you at the one go and if possible put it in several pockets as when you are haggling for prices you can take the money out of one pocket and say that it's all you have. Also if you buy something in the souks another possibility is to agree on a price and give the seller the name of your hotel and room number and they'll collect the money later. We did this when buying a carpet.

Other than that have a great holiday!

I went in June, I was advised to take dollars and change them to moroccan currency when there. I am going back in November and am taking a small amount of dollars for taxi when i get there then I found it easier to withdraw cash from ATM when there, most hotels have these in foyer. Have a great time it is a wonderful country.

No not from uk. It's a closed currency not to be taken in or out.

Yes it would be possible but you would have to order them in advance I am not sure how long it would take for the bank to obtain them for you. Why not take American dollars and exchange them when you get there? You can get these over the counter at any post office.

Good luck
Nadine
