A long-time Michigan Football radio announcer named Bob Ufer used to pronounce it that way.

As a Michigan State Spartans fan, I too find it truly annoying.
See the website listed in sources for information about him.

Fielding H. Yost, one of the greatest coaches for Michigan and in CFB history, used to pronounce "Michigan" that way due to his West Virginian accent. Broadcaster Bob Ufer carried on the tradition of the (mis)pronunciation as an homage, and Chris Fowler now carries the mantle. It s one of the few things I like about Fowler. Generally I find him rather bland.

There is a rather large group of people from Michigan that pronounce it that way. You think it's annoying when Fowler does it, think of how freakin' annoying it is when half a state says it that way.

I hope Michigan beats the snot out of Notre Dame. I hope they go undefeated. That way, when Ohio State beats them it will really stick it in and break it off. GO BUCKS!!

He isn't the only one that says it that way, but I'm not sure where it originated. I don't believe he is from Michigan, but I know Herbstreit played at OSU, so he may say it like that just to aggitate Kirk

I've lived in Michigan all my life and have NEVER heard any one pronunce it that way! I think he's TRYING to be funny. I really hate it when announcers do that.

As jpbofohio said, Bob Ufer used to pronounce it that way.

And the Michigan accent is much less irritating than the nasal tone you get in Wisconsin or Minnesota or the New England accent.

I got another. Order a pizza with everything on it and give the cook as hard a time as possible, changing your order when they repeat it. Do this several times and when the pizza guy comes to the door, tell them that you didn't order a pizza. =D
