That your kidneys are not functioning properly. This can be caused by drinking too much alcohol.

It means your kidneys are not happy campers. I'm sure you have been to a doctor, or you would not know to ask this question.
Ask for a second opinion if you think there may be a mistake in the testing, but do not delay or fool around with this!!
Are you pregnant? Nine years ago, the doctors said that my kidneys were spilling protein into my urine. I was 4 and a 1/2 months pregnant. I had only a stomach ache, but I almost died. You may not have severe toxemia, like I did, but find out what you have to do to get better, and DO IT!!!

I had a high protein reading once during a sports physical. My doctor thought it may have been a kidney infection. I later found out that it was only temporary and could have been caused by dietary intake or physical activity. Proteins often appear in the urine after vigorous physical exercise. I was a long distance runner. You may want to have another test done to see if there is really a problem.

Excessive protein (proteinuria) is also a common symptom of kidney disease, so please be sure to follow up with doctor's visits.

Well ! It depends on your health condition. If you are a Diabetic, then it means that your kidney finction is going down. Normally, a very minute amount of protein is present in urine. It is increased if you are a long term diabetic, if you have UTI or if you have illness directly related with kidney (Glomerulo-nephritis). Some drugs can also cause this !
